Our History

History of the Lumby & District Health Services Society

In 1974, a group of concerned citizens in Lumby and area felt the need for better health services for our growing community. The urgency was strong, as communication and transportation links between the nearest larger center Vernon, were not accessible for everyone – especially the elderly and lower income families. The formation of our Lumby & District Community Services Society was created. As part of their original mandate, the Society gathered overwhelming public and community support, and in 1976 built the Lumby Health Clinic to encourage physicians to set up practice in our community. We continue to enjoy the privilege of health care services in our community today, thanks to the vision of our early Society Members.

Through the years, the Society has served as a forum for the sharing of information and resources amongst the member groups. As needs were identified in our community, and brought to the attention of the Society resources and knowledge were pooled in such a way as to best meet the need.

The continued use of the services provided by the LDHSS will ensure future sustainability. Help us to keep health services here by having your X-Rays and Lab Services completed in Lumby.
